It has undergone major transformation over the last five years to deliver the best possible services to local residents and businesses, despite huge financial challenges.
The council’s improvement journey was recognised when it was named Local Authority of the Year 2017 at the prestigious MJ Awards. The council’s Children’s Services were rated good by OFSTED last year, putting them in the top 20% nationally.
Priorities include creating jobs and opportunities for local people, regenerating the city, strengthening communities and delivering excellent services.
